Student Leadership

At Todmorden High School we strongly believe that all our students have the potential to become leaders of the future and we give all our students opportunities to develop their leadership skills.  A large volume of students are appointed into student leadership roles throughout the school each year, from student council reps through to Head person of each year group.

We do not underestimate the importance of these roles, not just in the development of our students’ confidence and skills but also the impact they have on our student community.

Miss James looks after Student Leadership which important in the successful day to day running of school.

Student Voice allows students to raise any issues important to them and also encourages them to think of possible solutions. These are discussed at regular Student Council meetings with representatives nominated by each form and key issues are fed back to our Senior Leadership Team.

The Student Council members will change each year to allow more students to be involved if they wish to.

Student Ambassadors represent the school at a wide variety of events, from Primary School visits to Remembrance Day services, from Governor meetings to Sporting events, and roles are allocated following an application process which includes having an endorsement from a member of staff!

Student Ambassador roles are held for the duration of a student’s time at THS and new roles will be recruited to replace outgoing Year 11 students.

Each year in the Autumn term we nominate two Head Persons for each year group throughout the school. Students prepare their aims for the role and share them with their year group, a ballot then follows to decide who will attain the role of student leader. These students are voted for and supported by their peers, encouraging our students to have a voice and have their opinions heard.

Student Council Committee

The student council work together with other year representatives and liaise with their peers on wider school improvement.

The student council also work closely with staff members to continue to develop our school provision and facilities through student voice.

Department Leaders

Our older students are given the opportunity to work in particular departments across the school alongside the head of faculty. As well as supporting faculty work with regard to events and displays, this opportunity also gives students valuable work experience as preparation for adult life. Current department roles include EPR, History and Science.

Community Events

As well as their work in school our students are often seen out and about in Todmorden representing our school community in the wider area.
